Running for refugee aid New refugees arrive in Germany every day. Many of them have left everything they own behind to embark on their dangerous escape. But, in addition to personal items and memories, it is security in particular that the refugees are lacking most. ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH in Berlin has therefore decided to support a refugee aid trust in the local area. In the 16th Berliner Wasserbetriebe TEAM relay from 24-26 June 2015, the company combined sport and social commitment. Three employee teams with five runners in each team took part in the race and collecting donations with each kilometer they run. We collected 1,000 euros in total. When searching for a suitable organization to support, the employees at ASSA ABLOY quickly agreed: the focus should be on helping children and young people. Particularly those who have been forced to find their feet in a new and foreign country without parents or relatives. So we chose the processing point for child refugees in Lichterfelde. After a serious fire in April, the aim is to bring fun back to the site and enable them to start special promotions. The processing point is run by the FSD Trust in support of social services. The organization is delighted by the commitment shown by the company. "We can really use the support. The fire meant that the young people lost a large amount of security for the second time in just a short space of time. With our work, we aim to help refugees to come to grips with everyday life in Germany and give them back some semblance of normality", says Jürgen Brockmeyer, chairman of the foundation.
