Panel of experts honours security door closer from ASSA ABLOY

 

An independent panel of experts has chosen the ASSA ABLOY safety door closer as February's Product of the Month in the trade journal -“WIK – Zeitschrift für die Sicherheit der Wirtschaft”. What convinced the jury: The security door closer with integrated escape route locking system provides the possibility of retrofitting fire and smoke protection doors with an escape route locking system.

“A really successful development, that pays tribute to the sometimes very difficult to implement 'escape route guidelines' in conjunction with 'permitted modifications to fire protection barriers',” jury member Heiko Lohrer from Alarm- und Sicherheitstechnik Lohrer GmbH justifies his decision. Installers, door manufacturers and building operators do in fact frequently have difficulties when retrofitting fire and smoke protection doors due to the current regulations. The ASSA ABLOY safety door closer – a slide arm door closer with an escape door strike and a latch bolt lock - presents an innovative, worldwide unique solution for such cases.

Furthermore, jury member Bernd Sockel from Sicherheit Sockel rated the security door closer as a “top solution which not only minimizes the installation effort but also represents an appropriate innovative design solution.” With the security door closer, retrofitting fire and smoke protection doors with an escape route locking system is really trouble-free, fast and easy: unscrew existing door closer - screw on security door closer - without drilling, milling, filing, grinding or sawing. And there is no danger of losing the approval as a fire protection door. The ASSA ABLOY safety door closer uses the existing drill holes for DIN EN 1154 door closers and places a longer mounting plate on top. The slide arm is also longer to incorporate the model 332 escape door strike. The latch bolt lock is mounted on the extended mounting plate - not on the door leaf.

Along with Heiko Lohrer and Bernd Sockel, the panel of experts who gave their votes for February's WIK product of the month also included Stefan Berger (Alarm- & Sicherheitstechnik Berger GmbH), Günter Dolezel (expert for the metalworking trade), Otfried Jaus (LECTRO Sicherheitssysteme GmbH), Bernd Weiske (Hallescher Schlüsseldienst GmbH) and Harald Wieland (wieland & jarasch GmbH).
