New electric strike for security applications

ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH has brought a new electric strike onto the market under its established brand name effeff. With installation dimensions of 80 x 21 x 28 mm, the Fail-Unlocked Electric Strike 343 is particularly suitable for heavily used doors in industry, office buildings, public administration buildings and public institutions. Its design is similar to effeff’s time-tested Fire Protection Electric Strike 143.
effeff’s new Security Electric Strike 343 features a fail-unlocked design. This means the strike is only locked when it is connected to a power supply. If the power supply is switched off or is interrupted due to a power failure, the door can still be opened. “The Electric Strike 343 comes into play for security applications and other special uses, particularly as an additional locking device in interlock systems, for instance," explains Michael Holzer, Electro-mechanics Product Manager at ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH.
effeff’s new fail-unlocked electric strike stands out due to its optimum quality and versatility. “A symmetric design and a voltage range between 12 and 24 volts in DC operation enable the 343 to offer increased planning reliability,” affirms Michael Holzer. The integrated TVS diode also makes planning and installation easier. Besides providing reliable surge protection, the TVS diode is also polar-neutral. “Fitters no longer need to make sure positive and negative poles are in the right position,” explains Holzer. ASSA ABLOY thus offers a door strike which can be readily combined with access control systems, even when retrofitted. “Such flexible characteristics combined in a single model ensure product choice and storage are now even simpler.” The 343 also offers further advantages in its optimised connection technology and excellent resistance to break-ins up to 10,000 N. The new connection system includes contains all connection terminals on one side; the whole connection block can be plugged into the electric strike on site as required.
The Fail-Unlocked Electric Strike 343 includes Fix, FaFix and ProFix features, which ensure it is versatile and easy to fit and operate. The FaFix feature enables the door strike latch bolt to be adjusted and secured into position. The latch bolt adjustment range (FaFix) extends over 4mm with adjustment intervals of 0.5mm.
Due to the design of the radius keeper, the radius keeper rotates into its casing when opened, instead of pivoting outwards. This means the standard cutout for the latch in the frame can be reduced to a minimum; it can even be eliminated in the case of ProFix models. This electric strike is also optionally available with a non-adjustable keeper instead of FaFix.
“With the new 343 model, we have brought an electric strike onto the market which offers a solution for all fail-unlocked applications,” attests Michael Holzer. “However, fitters need to bear in mind that the 343 is not approved for electrical locking systems in emergency exits. effeff’s electric strikes 331U and 332 are certified and approved for such uses.”
