Employees at renowned IKON factor in Berlin have reason to celebrate: 5,000 VERSO CLIQ locking systems sold
Mechatronic locking systems are in demand: ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH has already sold its 5,000th VERSO CLIQ locking system since its introduction on the market. The customer, Caterpillar, the worldwide leading manufacturer of construction and mining machines, has installed the flexible system at its factory in Belgium. The IKON brand has already supplied over 500,000 mechanical locking systems since the most widely used profile cylinder was invented in 1928.
The flexible allocation and administration of locking authorisations is a main feature of VERSO CLIQ locking systems. ‘The high degree of flexibility was an important decision criterion’, explains Koenraad Lafaut, sales consultant at ASSA ABLOY in Belgium. ‘If Caterpillar expands its locking system or changes the authorisations, it will be very easy to handle the access rights by reprogramming the locking cylinders.’ The locking system at Caterpillar’s factory in Belgium comprises 1,000 locking cylinders and 3,000 keys in the administrative and production areas.
The VERSO CLIQ gets its power from a battery in the key – which was unique when it was introduced on the market in 2002. This means that the ASSA ABLOY IKON brand system does not require any wiring or any connection to a network; it is supplied as a plug-and-play item. In addition, the VERSO CLIQ meets high security requirements, since each key is unique.
The VERSO CLIQ can be supplied in any established locking cylinder design: from half cylinders, double cylinders to knob cylinders, as well as lever cylinders or furniture cylinders, as well as in padlock form. ‘The system's enormous range of applications indoors and outdoors is what has made it so successful’, explains Alexander Kroll, product manager at ASSA ABLOY. The VERSO CLIQ is now being successfully used at countless companies, institutions and administrations throughout Europe. ‘Mechatronic locking systems like the VERSO CLIQ are on the rise in comparison with mechanical ones’, maintains Kroll.

The 5000th VERSO CLIQ locking system rolls off the line at the Berlin plant. Production manager Marcus Groneberg and Patricia Reetz from the VERSO CLIQ team celebrate this big success. VERSO CLIQ is based on the company-wide CLIQ technology and is the worldwide most successful CLIQ system at the ASSA ABLOY Group. The employees at the Berlin IKON plant are also pleased with the degree of sales success which the VERSO CLIQ locking systems has achieved. ‘We were dead set on breaking the 5,000 mark in 2010’ says Marcus Groneberg, production manager at IKON. ‘We have the collective effort of all of our employees to thank for this great success.’
