Top performer in German product testing institute analysis: IKON Protector Bar DRS with patented dual locking system
High-grade door and window security devices provide effective protection against break-ins. The IKON Protector Bar DRS with or without a security link has been declared the best performer in tests by the Stiftung Warentest, the German product testing institute. Such is the result of a market analysis carried out by the institute for this July’s edition of its magazine, when tests were carried out on four cross bar locks.
IKON’s VdS-certified Protector Bars DRS 8443 and 8444 came out top in tests the Stiftung Warentest recently carried out on cross bar locks, as featured in this July’s edition of the organisation’s magazine. With a rating of 1.9, the IKON cross bars qualified as the top performers amongst the four cross bar locks in the test. According to the testers’ evaluation, the IKON Protector Bar DRS with or without a security link particularly impresses due to its excellent burglary resistance. Basing its assessment on the principle that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, the VdS, the German testing and certification institution, approves the lock for use with a security escutcheon and a VdS-approved, class A locking cylinder such as the IKON VECTOR 1RP04.
“In Germany, a home is broken into every two minutes. Burglars only need about 10 to 15 seconds to gain entry to a house or apartment. In doing so, besides climbing through easily accessible windows, they often use the most direct way - through the door,” explains Annett Pfennig, the product manager responsible at ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH. “This is why effectively securing entrance doors, apartment doors and side entrances should always have top priority.” With the top performer in Stiftung Warentest tests, IKON’s Protector Bars DRS (dual bolt system), ASSA ABLOY Sicherheitstechnik GmbH offers a solid additional locking device. It protects the inside of doors across their whole breadth and on both the lock and hinge side with a dual locking mechanism on each side. “The sturdy locking cases are firmly screwed onto the wall using three anchor bolts for each case. The Protector Bar is able to offer resistance against being pried open by forces of 10 kN, or around 1,000 kg. Moreover, the bolt’s freely rotating mount hinders any attempted break-in through sawing,” says the product manager. IKON’s Protector Bars DRS with security link enable the door to be opened slightly into a secured position, so users can check who is calling.
“Burglars are often deterred after merely just seeing additional locking devices on entrance doors,” affirms Annett Pfennig. Impressive in its attractive white, brown or silver design, the standard version of this cross bar can be used for all door widths between 600 and 1,200 mm. Easy installation is assured by wide-ranging, standard accessories, such as spacers of different thicknesses used to adjust the height of locking cases. Versions featuring additional vertical locking devices with anchorage points in the floor and ceiling are available as an option and provide a six-point locking system.
“With this system, doors are completely secured, from left to right and from top to bottom,” points out Pfennig.
